BIGGEST SIR EXERCISE IN the COUNTRY
India, Dec. 31 -- After Bihar, the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls commenced in Uttar Pradesh on November 4 to scan 15.44 crore voters enrolled in the voter list prepared in October 2025. For the mammoth exercise, the Election Commission of India (ECI) deployed 1.62 lakh booth level officers (BLOs). Political parties deputed 4.41 lakh booth level agents (BLAs) for the exercise. Roughly, 29.6 million names in Uttar Pradesh might get excised from the rolls after the SIR, with the highest percentage of deletions likely to be seen in urban hubs. Of the 29.6 million, 12.8 million are categorised as permanently shifted, 4.6 million as deceased, 2.41 million as duplicate, and 8.74 million as untraceable, according to data. Another 9,84,393 voters (0.62%) have not returned their enumeration forms. Needless to say, it is the biggest SIR exercise in the country in view of UP's enormous population and electorates....
