Big win for Lakhimpur in JL Sharma hockey
LUCKNOW, Nov. 18 -- Spirited Lakhimpur notched up day's biggest win in the 17th Padma Shree Pt Jaman Lal Sharma Memorial Under-14 State Hockey Tournament, drubbing Prayagraj by 6-0, at the Chandra Bhanu Gupt Khel Maidan here on Monday.
In other matches of the day, Sitapur defeated Rampur 5-2, Barabanki beat Kausambi 2-1, Kanpur beat Azamgarh 2-1. Just before the start of the tournament, the KD Singh Babu Society felicitated hockey Olympians on the 100th year celebration of Hockey India. They included Syed Ali, Sujeet Kumar, Shakeel Ahmad, Danish Mujtaba, MP Singh and RS Rawat.
Indian para badminton player and international medalist Abu Hubaida has been elected as one of the members of the BWF Players' Commission. This achievement is a matter of pride for both India and the Indian para badminton community.
Lucknow's Hubaida has long been a prominent face of Indian para badminton. He is ranked No. 1 in India, No 3 in Asia, and No 3 in the World Badminton World Championships (WH2) and has been the national champion for the past four consecutive years. He has represented India in numerous international tournaments, winning numerous medals including gold, silver, and bronze.
"I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. It is a great honor for me to win the BWF Players' Commission elections. I will continue to work with complete honesty and dedication for the rights, progress, and interests of all players,' he said.
"This responsibility is not only a personal honor but also an opportunity to strongly represent the voice of the entire para-badminton player community on a global level," he added.
A sparkling half-century by opener Prabhakar Singh guided Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) beat Lucknow Nagar Nigam (LNN) by four wickets in a match for the annual cricket trophy, at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium here.
Singh smacked an unbeaten 49-ball 87 with the help of 10 boundaries and five sixes as LDA reached home in 14.5 overs while chasing 143 in 15 overs. Arbar ahmed made 22. For LNN, Akash took 4/13.
Earlier, LNN scored 142/7 while batting first after winning the toss. Ankit Kumar struck highest 37. For LDA, Arbaz Ahmed took 4/20, whereas Praveen Mishra took 2/29....
