Varanasi, Nov. 18 -- Prof Anup Singh, nodal officer of the National Centre of Ageing and head of the department of geriatric medicine at IMS-BHU, has been honoured with the Jodhpur Oration and the Young Scholar Award at GERICON 2025. The conference, organised by the Indian Academy of Geriatrics, was held at AFMC Pune from November 13 to 15 . Receiving both an oration and a scholar award in the same year is extremely rare. Prof Singh said this was the first time such dual recognition had been given together, calling it a moment of great pride for IMS and Banaras Hindu University. Two of his students also brought recognition to the institution. Dr Sourabh Pathania won the third prize in oral paper presentation, while Dr Ankita Chakrabarti secured the third prize in poster presentation. Their achievements reflect the department's growing academic strength and its research-focused environment. This has been an important year for Geriatrics at IMS-BHU, with the establishment of the National Centre of Ageing, a 200-bed state-of-the-art facility, and several notable achievements at the national level. These milestones highlight BHU's rising leadership in geriatric healthcare, research, policy, and education. Prof Singh thanked the BHU administration for their constant support and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the university's position as a national model for geriatric services. He said that BHU is a place where he feels a strong sense of belonging, and these honours reinforce the vision of making the university a centre of excellence in ageing research and care.
