LUCKNOW, Sept. 14 -- The court of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special judge here has convicted and sentenced a senior assistant (clerk) of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to five years of imprisonment in a bribery case, as per an official note on Saturday. Rajesh Kumar, who works for the BHU's sanitary and support services in Varanasi, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 75,000 from the complainant for processing and ensuring the release of death benefits of his father, who was a sweeper in BHU. The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed accepting Rs 30,000 from the complainant. "After completion of the investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet against the accused on June 30, 2016, and the competent court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused accordingly on Friday," stated an official.
