Bhavi, Kartikaya star in UP's win
LUCKNOW, Oct. 16 -- A sparkling century by Bhavi Sharma in crisis situation guided former champions Uttar Pradesh crush Delhi by four wickets to collect full points in their Elite Group E encounter of the Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, at the JSCA Oval Ground in Ranchi on Wednesday. Now, they play their next league match against Assam on Friday.
Sharma's 99-ball 108 with the help of eight boundaries and seven sixes rescued Uttar Pradesh from 95/5 as the side romped home in 46.3 overs while chasing Delhi's 230. Sharma's 135-run stand for the sixth wicket with keeper-batter Kartikaya Singh guided the side to inflict their second win in as many as four matches so far.
In fact, it was a complete failure of top order as except skipper Bhavy Goyal, who scored 61-ball 31 with the help of four boundaries, all other batters like Shanthanu Singh (4), Yashu Pradhan (9), Aayan Akram (9) and Aditya Kumar Singh (7) failed to stay long and left Uttar Pradesh reeling at 95/5 in 20.1 over at one stage. But the duo of Sharma and Singh kept the scoreboard ticking on at a perfect pace and before Sharma being bowled by Pranav Pant in the 47th over, Uttar Pradesh were at the threshold of winning, needing just one more run. Singh along with Sharma played a sheet anchor role, hitting an unbeaten 47 in 69 balls with the help of three hits to the fence.
Earlier, an 106-run second wicket stand between opener Arnav S Bugga and Priyansh Pandey guided Delhi post a challenging 230 in 47,2 overs while batting first after winning the toss.
Poor batting let Uttar Pradesh suffer a six-wicket loss from the hands of Mumbai in their Elite Group A encounter of the Senior Women's T20 Trophy, at the IS Bindra Cricket Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday.
Former runners-up Uttar Pradesh kept losing wickets on regular intervals before being restricted at 115/6 while batting first after winning the toss. Muskan Malik (25), Nishu Choudhary (24*), and Anjali Singh (22) could show some resistance.
