Bhaandoh, Yashika shine with willow, Kalpana bags five wickets
LUCKNOW, Jan. 5 -- Sparkling knocks by Kavya Bhaandoh and skipper Yashika and a five-wicket haul by Kalpna helped spirited Uttar Pradesh score a comprehensive 160-run victory over Manipur to log on full points in the Women's Under-15 One Day Trophy, at the JU Second Campus, Salt Lake in Kolkata on Sunday.
Kanpur's Bhaandoh struck an unbeaten 88-ball 124, laced with 18 boundaries and a six, whereas Yashika scored 97 in 101 balls with the help of 13 hits to the fence as Uttar Pradesh posted 261/2 in 35 overs while batting first after winning the toss. In reply, Manipur could make 101 in 31.2 overs.
In their Group D encounter, Uttar Pradesh lost two quick wickets for just 32 in 6.4 overs, but thereafter both Bhaandoh and Yashika went on adding unbeaten 229 runs for the third wicket. Opener Garima Singh was caught by Malemnganbi off Alice Thokchom in the second over on duck, whereas Siddhangana Verma was trapped leg before wicket by Linthoi only after making six.
Both Bhaandoh and Yashika remained unstoppable for Manipur bowlers as all seven bowlers used in the match looked struggling. UP's Kalpana was right on target from the very start as she got the first Manipur wickets to leave them tottering at 10/3 when the rivals begun the run-chase.
She castled opener Marvi (1) in the fifth over, trapped Malemnganbi (0) lbw in the eight over before uprooting the off stump of Shilheibi Seram also on duck. She also had the wickets of Farjiya (4) and Bigyapati (12) to complete her maiden five-wicket haul of the season.
Keeper-batter Viviene struck the highest 39, which came off 36 balls with the help of eight boundaries. Nazmin (10) was another batter, who could touch the double figure mark. Besides Kalpana, bowlers like Minakshi Yadav, Khushi pal and Aryma Mishra shared three wickets between them.
