LUCKNOW, Jan. 21 -- Barring a runner-up finish in the Under-23 Men's State A Trophy this season Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association doesn't have anything to feel proud of in domestic cricket. After seven wins on the trot, Uttar Pradesh lost to Saurashtra in the quarterfinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy after making an early exit in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trop-hy. In the Ranji Trophy with just 17 points in five matches so far, Uttar Pradesh have been struggling at fourth position in Elite Group A, and without having outright wins in the remaining two league matches, qualifying for the knockout seems almost impossible. Now with the second half as well as fine rounds of the domestic season all set to begin on Thursday here with former champions and hosts Uttar Pradesh playing against Jharkhand in their penultimate game of the Ranji Trophy, Uttar Pradesh will still have 11 matches to make their presence felt in the domestic circuit. Uttar Pradesh will play their final league match in the Ranji Trophy against hosts Vidarbha at Nagpur from January 29, but before that former champions Uttar Pradesh will play their remaining three matches in the Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy with the first match starting on January 21 against hosts Chhattisgarh at Bhilai. This will be followed by their match against Uttarakhand at Rampur from January 30 before playing the last league match against Chandigarh at Ghaziabad from February 6. The team under the coaching of former Team India cricketer Gyanendra Pandey have all possibilities to make it to the knockout as they are standing at fourth position in Elite Group D with 21 points. Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh with 23 points each stand at second and third position whereas Karnataka with 28 points lead the table. There would also be ample opportunity for women's cricketers to stamp their supremacy in the senior category as in the Senior Women's One Day Trophy, Uttar Pradesh will play their seven Elite Group A league matches with the first one against Karnataka on February 6 at Rajkot. This will be followed by matches against Maharashtra on February 8, against Odisha on February 10, against Madhya Pradesh on February 12, against Baroda on February 14, against Pondicherry on February 16 before playing the last league match against Assam on February 18. Uttar Pradesh's domestic season will culminate with the Women's Under 23 One Day Trophy as they will be playing five league matches in the Elite Group D in March. UP will play their first match against Odisha on March 3 at Pune, before playing against Bengal on March 5, against Uttarakhand on March 7, against Kerala on March 9 and against Gujarat on March 11....
