Beating heart disease: Experts share simple fixes
LUCKNOW, Feb. 7 -- To maintain good heart and overall health, one should walk 12,000 steps daily. This can be divided into two or three segments. For example, this goal can be achieved by walking in the morning, afternoon, and evening. This advice was given by Dr Bhuvan Chandra Tiwari, head of the Cardiology Department at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS).
He was addressing a national conference organized by Society for Promotion of Physical Activity and Health at RMLIMS, stated a press release shared with the media on Friday.
He advised minimizing salt intake, especially avoiding adding extra salt to food. He also recommended consuming protein-rich foods and avoiding sugary foods.
Dr Gaurav Chaudhary of the Lari Cardiology Department, King George's Medical University (KGMU), suggested setting a limit on mobile phone use for heart health.
"Take a break every 30 to 40 minutes. Walk around or do some stretching. Stay away from your mobile phone at least an hour before going to sleep. Exercise daily. Heart diseases can only be prevented by adopting a balanced lifestyle," he said.
Dr Ashish Jha from RMLIMS stated that in today's changing lifestyle, taking care of heart health has become extremely important. With a little caution and by adopting the right habits, the risk of heart diseases can be significantly reduced. "Include green vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lentils in your diet. Getting 7 to 8 hours of deep sleep every day helps keep your heart healthy.Cigarettes and excessive alcohol damage the arteries of the heart. Quitting them is the greatest favor you can do for your heart," he said. htc...
