LUCKNOW, Nov. 10 -- Top order batters excelled in unison and helped spirited Uttar Pradesh launch their campaign in the Men's U23 State Trophy Elite D Group in style, drubbing Karnataka by seven wickets, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday. Opener Adarsh Singh, Kavya Teotia, Rituraj Sharma and skipper Sameer Rizvi smacked half centuries as Uttar Pradesh chased down Karnataka's total of 306 in 46.4 overs. Ritik Vats remained unbeaten on 14-ball 15 with the help of two hits to the fence. Singh and Teotio gave a flying start to Uttar Pradesh's run chase, stitching together 132 for the opening wicket before Singh was caught by Dhruv Prabhakar off Samit Dravid after scoring 83-ball 91, which contained nine boundaries and four sixes. However, Singh's departure didn't make any difference to Teotia, who went on adding 46 runs for the second wicket with Rituraj Sharma before being bowled by Prabhakar. He made 53 in 70 balls with the help of four boundaries and a six. Sharma, who remained unbeaten at 75 in 68 balls with the help of six boundaries and three sixes, continued his good show with willow in the white ball cricket too, adding 90 runs for the third wicket with white ball specialist Rizvi, who hammered five boundaries and four sixes in his 61-run knock before being stumped by Faizan Khan off Hardik Raj. Thereafter, it turned out to be just a formality for Sharma and Vats, who added unbeaten 39 runs for the fourth wicket, and put the side home at ease. Earlier, Karnataka didn't get a good start as they lost two quick wickets for just 38 after being asked to bat first as opener Karthik S (18) and Yashovardhan Parantap (6) departed in quick succession. But thereafter, fellow opener Prakar Chaturevdi (54, 92b, 3x6) and skipper Aneeshwar Gautam added 104 runs for the third wicket and repaired the innings well. Though Chaturvedi departed in the 31st over, Karnataka batters, especially skipper Gautam continued to hit the ball with sheer power, striking his maiden century as his 94-ball 118 was studded with six boundaries and seven sixes. Karthikeya KP struck 32-ball 43 (4x6, 1x6), whereas Manvanth Kumar (22) and Faizan Khan (22*) also made useful contributions as Karnataka posted 306/9. Young left-arm orthodox spinner, Kartik Yadav after excelling in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy matches with 29 wickets, showed his might with white ball too, bagging 3/48, whereas pacers Vijay Kumar (3/50) and Abdul Rehman (2/65) also did well with white ball. Uttar Pradesh, who now stand at third place behind TN and Himachal will now take on Hyderabad on Tuesday....
