PRAYAGRAJ, July 14 -- With the level of Ganga and Yamuna rivers rising with each passing day, most of the permanent constructions in the mela area built in 2019 Kumbh Mela and 2025 Mahakumbh including ghats, 12-kilometer long Ganga Path or water river front, Arail Ghat, Mori Ghat, etc have been submerged in flood waters besides the ongoing work of the six-lane bridge had also been stopped. Similarly the boat club administration has also halted the operation of boats in Yamuna owing to the swollen status of the river, besides the construction of the Bade Hanuman Temple Corridor in Sangam area was also stalled last week. On Saturday, flood water completely submerged the newly constructed Dashshwamedha Ghat for Mahakumbh 2025. Also the 12-km long Ganga Path, constructed along the banks of the Ganga River to facilitate the smooth movement of large number of pilgrims during Mahakumbh Mela 2025 by Irrigation department, connecting Phaphamau to Sangam and passing through Shivkuti, Salori, Nagvasuki, Dashashwamedha etc is also engulfed in flood waters. According to Pandit Rajendra Paliwal, president of Prayagwal Sabha, the organization of teerth purohits, flood water had engulfed the entire Ganga Path area besides all the takhats (wooden cots) of teerth purohits had been removed from Sangam area as flood water had engulfed most of the mela area. As per records of the Flood Control Room, in past four hours between 12 noon and 4pm on Sunday, the water level of Ganga at Chhatnag recorded a rise of 26 cm and was measured flowing at 79.32 meters while at Phaphamau the river was flowing at 79.42 meters. Further records revealed, Yamuna at Naini in the past four hours recorded a rise of 50 cm and was measured flowing at 79.80 meters at 4pm on Sunday. On Sunday evening, flood water also touched the boundary of Bade Hanuman Temple. After the water level of Ganga at Bakshi Bundh crossed the 79 meters mark, officials of Irrigation department ordered closure of sluice gate of the bundh on Sunday morning. After closure of the sluice gate, rain water accumulated in Allahpur area was being drained out through Bakshi Bundh Pumping Station. However, in case of heavy rain in the next 24 hours, waterlogging in areas like Allahpur, Tagore Town could get worse. According to Executive Engineer of Irrigation department RK Singh, the level of Ganga and Yamuna could witness a further rise in the next 24 hours owing to heavy rainfall in different parts of the state. It may be mentioned that at 4pm on Sunday, Ganga at Phaphamau was flowing 5.31 meters below the danger mark of 84.73 meters while Yamuna in Naini was flowing 4.93 meters below the danger mark....
