Meerut, May 10 -- A land dispute in Bareilly's Sirauli region turned deadly after a group of assailants allegedly stormed a house and brutally assaulted two brothers, leaving one of them dead. The incident, which occurred on the night of May 5 in Dalippur village, has led to tension in the area, with police launching a manhunt for the accused, who are absconding. According to the police, a long-standing dispute over land between the families of Gaurav Singh and Prakash Sharma escalated into violence late on Monday night. Gaurav Singh alleged in his complaint that Prakash Sharma, along with Neeraj Sharma, Nand Kishore, and Lakhan, conspired to attack his family. Armed with sticks and rods, the accused allegedly barged into the Singh household and beat the two brothers mercilessly, leaving them severely injured. Locals intervened and managed to rescue the victims from the attackers. Both brothers were rushed to hospital for treatment. However, 28-year-old Saurabh Singh succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bareilly. Initially registered as a case of assault, police have now modified the charges to murder following Saurabh's death.
