Banned meat smugglers nabbed after encounter
PRAYAGRAJ, May 28 -- Four persons allegedly carrying banned meat on two bikes were nabbed after a brief police encounter in Kandhai area of Pratapgarh district during the early hours of Tuesday. One of the accused sustained a gunshot injury to his leg in the encounter before being nabbed along with his three accomplices, police said.
Station house officer (SHO) of Kandhai police station, Gulabchand Sonkar, informed that on Monday night, they received a tip-off about cow slaughter near the Jaitpur Usar area under Kandhai police station, following which he, along with Kishanganj police outpost in-charge Rajesh Yadav and a team, rushed to the spot. At around 3 am, four people were seen coming with sacks on two bikes. When the police tried to stop them, the bike riders started firing at the police team. In the retaliatory firing by the police, one bike rider was injured after being shot in the leg, while the police surrounded and caught the other three, he shared.
The youth injured in the encounter was identified as 38-year-old Hasmatullah alias Lakkhu, a resident of Rampur Kurmiyan village of Kandhai. The others arrested wereqq Mustakim alias Kallu from Hanumanganj, Anees from Mubarakpur and Mujeeb from Rampur Kurmiyan, the SHO added. Police took injured Hasmatullah to Community Health Centre (CHC) Belkharnath, from where-after first aid-he was referred to the medical college....
