Bank retirees protest in Lucknow, demand pension revision
LUCKNOW, Aug. 1 -- The coordination committee of the Bank pensioners and retirees organisation held a sit-in and hunger strike outside the State Bank of India's main branch on Thursday, demanding pension revision.
Around 600 members from various banks across Uttar Pradesh took part in the protest.

He added that the SBI pension fund alone holds over Rs.70,000 crore, and pensions are paid from the interest.
Despite this, he said, the government is not allowing revision of pensions, which could be done using the fund itself.
Dinesh Chandra, president of the State Bank Pensioners' Association, pointed out that government retirees receive medical benefits, but bank pensioners must buy their own insurance.
He cited an order asking banks to pay medical premiums for pensioners.
SN Verma from the Central Bank demanded that pensioner organisations be included in talks with the Indian Banks' Association (IBA), banks, and the government.
Media incharge Anil Tewari warned of a nationwide protest if no action is taken soon.
Prominent among those addressed the gathering included RS Verma (Punjab National Bank), RK Verma (Canara Bank), Harihar Singh and Ruby (Indian Bank), and Harihar Gupta (IOB)....
