LUCKNOW, Sept. 9 -- The arrest of Mohammad Nasim, a Bangladeshi caught with a forged Indian passport at Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Friday, has opened a wider probe into a network allegedly helping foreigners acquire Indian identity documents. Nasim, who entered India illegally in 2015, admitted to living in Unnao district under a false identity and revealed how he obtained an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and an Indian passport. Authorities are now tracing accomplices and examining links across multiple states. According to officials, Nasim acquired a residence certificate from local authorities in Unnao, which enabled him to secure other documents. He worked in slaughterhouses before moving to manual labour and driving jobs. Recent travel records show he returned from Bangladesh and had plans to go to Malaysia for business using his Indian identity, with a return ticket from Agartala to Kolkata dated August 2025 found on his phone. Investigators said data from Nasim's mobile and social media accounts were crucial in uncovering contacts in Bandarban district's Naikhongchhari area in Bangladesh. He was active in regional Facebook groups and had a YouTube history filled with Bangladeshi content, pointing to strong cross-border connections.
