Bangladesh start Super Fours with nervy four-wicket win vs Sri Lanka
New Delhi, Sept. 21 -- Bangladesh eked out a nervy four-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the first Super Fours encounter of the Asia Cup in Dubai on Saturday. Needing one run off five balls, Bangladesh lost two wickets in a space of three balls to raise hopes of a familiar capitulation. However, Nasum Ahmed stole the all-important single on the penultimate ball to seal the deal for Bangladesh.
Chasing 169, Bangladesh rode on Towhid Hridoy's 37-ball 58 after their bowlers held their own in the face of some brutal hitting from Sri Lanka's Dasun Shanaka. Opener Saif Hassan stroked a 45-ball 61 to set the ball rolling for Bangladesh after they lost Tanzid Hasan.
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 168/7 in their 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis added 44 runs for the first wicket before Taskin Ahmed sent back Nissanka (22). Mahedi Hasan then accounted for Mendis and Kamil Mishara but Shanaka dug in.
