BAHRAICH, Dec. 15 -- Nanpara police here arrested an alleged history-sheeter after he was injured in an encounter, while his accomplice allegedly escaped, during an operation to stop suspects from fleeing to Nepal with a stolen motorcycle on the intervening night of Saturday. Police recovered the stolen motorcycle, an illegal pistol and cartridges from the spot. Additional superintendent of police, rural, Durga Prasad Tiwari, said a robbery was reported on December 8 in the Nanpara police station area, where Mohammad Shameem, son of Amin, was allegedly robbed of his motorcycle and Rs 5,100. A case was registered and an investigation was initiated. On December 14, police received a tip-off that two suspects involved in the robbery were planning to cross into Nepal. Acting on the information, Nanpara SHO Rajnath Singh and his team set up a vehicle-checking operation near the Hada Baseri canal culvert. Police said two men on a motorcycle approached during checking and allegedly opened fire when signalled to stop. In retaliatory action, police fired back, injuring one suspect, identified as Deepak Kashyap, who sustained a bullet injury in his left leg. The other suspect, Fayyaz, allegedly fled under the cover of darkness. Police recovered the stolen motorcycle, one country-made pistol, two spent cartridges and one live cartridge from Deepak Kashyap, who was sent to the hospital for treatment....
