Bahraich's Karikot wins 'responsible tourism' award
Lucknow, Sept. 16 -- Karikot, a remote village in Bahraich district nestled near the Indo-Nepal border, was honoured with the ICRT Indian Subcontinent Responsible Tourism Award in the "peace, understanding, and inclusivity category" at an event in New Delhi on Monday.This award, presented by the International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT), acknowledges how Karikot has turned its geographical challenges into opportunities.
Bahraich's CDO Mukesh Chandra, accompanied by village secretary Sushil Kumar Singh and gram pradhan Parvati, received the award on behalf of the village. The recognition came from a panel of judges led by professor Harold Goodwin, with experts Manisha Pande and Charmarie Maelge noting Karikot's remarkable strides in inclusive development, particularly in a region often marked by ecological and strategic sensitivity.
The gram pradhan said, "This award belongs to every family in Karikot. Karikot's model of responsible tourism revolves around community-led initiatives.The village has built a thriving tourism ecosystem that directly benefits its residents.
