Baghpat man arrested for forcing dog to drink liquor
MEERUT, Jan. 6 -- A case of animal cruelty came to light in Kirthal village of Baghpat, where a youth was arrested for allegedly torturing a dog and forcibly making it consume alcohol. The arrest came after a video of the purported incident went viral on social media, triggering widespread public outrage and swift police action.
According to police officials, the video purportedly shows a youth holding a dog and pouring an intoxicating substance directly into its mouth from a liquor bottle. The dog is seen struggling desperately to free itself, while another person, who is recording the video, can be heard encouraging the act. Despite the animal's visible distress, the accused allegedly continued forcing alcohol down its throat.
Police said after the video surfaced online, the Baghpat social media cell and the local Ramala police station took cognisance of the matter and launched an inquiry. The accused was identified as Jitendra alias Ballam, a resident of Kirthal village. He was arrested from the Ramala police station area on Sunday.
A case was registered against the accused under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and further legal action was being taken, officials confirmed.
The incident sparked sharp reactions across social media platforms, with users strongly condemning the act as "cruel and inhuman". Many termed it a blatant case of animal abuse and demanded strict punishment for those involved.
Ramala SHO Jitendra Kumar said the police examined the viral footage to establish the identities of the people seen in the video. "Efforts were made to identify the accused and action has been taken as per the law. The matter is being taken seriously, and those responsible will not be spared," he said.
