Bageshwar distt official held for taking Rs.50K bribe
Rudrapur, May 25 -- The Zila Sainik Kalyan Adhikari of Bageshwar district was arrested on Saturday while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000, the vigilance department said.
"The officer, Subodh Shukla (a retired Army Colonel), was arrested while he was taking a bribe of Rs.50,000. We received a complaint wherein an ex-serviceman said that when he approached Colonel (Retd) Shukla to request an extension of his contract, Shukla demanded a bribe of Rs.50,000. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the ex-serviceman filed a formal complaint," V Murugesan, director of Vigilance Establishment in Uttarakhand, said in a statement.
The complainant was employed on an 11-month contractual basis through Uttarakhand Purv Sainik Kalyan Nigam Ltd (UPNL) in the ex-servicemen welfare department.
"Following a preliminary investigation, the complaint was found credible. A trap was laid, and the vigilance team caught Shukla accepting the bribe at his office on Saturday. Shukla was booked under Prevention of Corruption Act," the official added....
