Meerut, Jan. 10 -- An additional district and sessions court in Badaun has issued notices to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and former MP Udit Raj in connection with a case involving alleged objectionable remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati. The court has directed both leaders to appear either personally or through their legal counsel on January 29. The order was passed by additional district and sessions judge Poonam Singhal while hearing a criminal revision petition filed by advocate Jai Singh Sagar. The petition relates to a complaint alleging that Congress leader and former MP Udit Raj made derogatory remarks against Mayawati on February 16, 2025. According to the petitioner, an application was submitted on February 17, 2025, before the MP-MLA court seeking registration of a criminal case. However, the MP-MLA court dismissed the plea, stating that the alleged incident had taken place in Delhi and therefore fell outside its jurisdiction. Challenging this decision, advocate Jai Singh Sagar filed a criminal revision petition in the district judge's court on August 25, 2025.
