Meerut, June 14 -- The in-charge of a police outpost in Badaun district was suspended after a video purportedly showed him taking money from a complainant in order to add relevant charges to an assault case. The action was taken after the complainant, Ved Prakash, submitted a formal complaint to inspector general (IG) Ajay Kumar Sahni against the cop and the video was widely shared on social media. Ved, who hails from Bhuda Bhadraul in the district, claimed that he was brutal attacked by four men from his village on the night of May 2. The attackers allegedly used a knife during the assault, and the assault left him with a fractured hip bone. Assuming he had died, the accused fled. Despite a medical report confirming the severity of his injuries, no additional charges were added by the local police. According to Ved, the in-charge and investigating officer, Pradeep Kumar Dubey, demanded Rs.30,000 to include the relevant sections in the case. Ved said he paid Rs.5,000 upfront and was told to pay the remaining amount later. However, even after he gave the amount, the charges in the case were not amended, he claimed. Meanwhile, the video, which was reportedly captured discreetly by a bystander, gained rapid traction on social media by Wednesday. Taking cognisance of the issue, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brajesh Kumar Singh suspended Dubey. "A preliminary inquiry has found the officer prima facie guilty, and action has been taken accordingly," the SSP said....
