B'deshi man held for living in India with forged docs: Police
Dehradun, Nov. 22 -- A 28-year-old man, allegedly a Bangladeshi national, was arrested for living in Dehradun under a fake identity. The development came during the ongoing checks under Operation Kalanemi, launched in July to identify impersonators and individuals misusing forged identities, police said on Friday.
According to police, his wife, a Dehradun resident, was also arrested for allegedly helping him procure fake identity documents, including a resident certificate, Aadhaar card and a PAN card. The accused, identified as Mamun Hasan, had been residing in a rented accommodation in Alaknanda Enclave Phase 2 under the jurisdiction of Nehru Colony police station, with his wife, identified as Reena Chauhan, a resident of Tyuni, and a local resident, using the identity of Sachin Chauhan, police said, adding that he had also been working as a bouncer at a local club using these forged documents.
Senior superintendent of police (SP) Ajai Singh said: "Police are taking strict action against people living illegally, particularly from Bangladesh, while using forged documents."
Police said the duo was arrested on a tip-off. During questioning, the man revealed his real identity and that he is a resident of Meherpur district in Bangladesh.
"During questioning, accused Reena admitted that she was living on rent with Mamun Hasan in Alaknanda Enclave and had helped him obtain forged Indian identity documents using the name of her former husband, Sachin Chauhan.
The two had been living together as husband and wife under the names Sachin Chauhan and Reena," Singh said.
A case has been registered at Nehru Colony police station under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 3 of the Passport (Entry Into India) Act, 1920, and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act for conspiracy, cheating, forgery and illegal residence in India. "Both accused have been arrested, and fake identity cards along with other documents have been seized," the SSP said.
"Those who helped them in the preparation of the forged documents are under radar, and strict action will be taken against them as well," he added....
