PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 12 -- A senior official of the Azamgarh district administration allegedly died by suicide on Thursday morning at his ancestral house in Pure Keshav Rai village under Nagar Kotwali area of Pratapgarh, where he had come on leave, police said. As per reports, the official was preparing to leave for Azamgarh when he received a phone call from his wife. A heated argument followed, after which he returned to his room and allegedly hanged himself. Upon being informed, police reached the spot, sent the body for the post-mortem examination and launched a probe into the incident. According to police, family members of the deceased claimed that he had a dispute with his wife and it had intensified of late. They also alleged that he was being harassed by his in-laws. Reports said the officer, married for about 10 years, had arrived in Pratapgarh on Saturday (September 6) while his wife was at her maternal home in Sultanpur. Family members said they initially did not suspect anything when he was heard arguing loudly over the phone, but grew concerned when he failed to open his room for nearly 20 minutes.
