Azam Khan acquitted in 2019 hate speech case
MEERUT, Nov. 12 -- The MP-MLA court in Rampur on Tuesday acquitted senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan in a hate speech case that was related to his alleged objectionable remarks made during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign.
After the hearing, MP/MLA court of special judge Shobhit Bansal acquitted the Khan due to lack of evidence.
The case against the Samajwadi Party leader was lodged in 2019 at Civil Lines police station, based on a complaint filed by the then ARO Prem Prakash Tiwari and the SDM Sadar.The FIR accused Khan of inciting voters against the police and urging them to vote beyond the scheduled time during a public rally.
At the time, Khan was contesting from Rampur as a candidate of the SP-BSP alliance in the general elections.
"The verdict is a proof that truth ultimately triumphs, though only after a long struggle," the Samajwadi Party leader said while talking to reporters outside the court....
