Ayodhya, Sept. 11 -- Special judge (Fast Track Court II) Vijay Kumar Vishwakarma has sentenced a local shop owner to 28 years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a Rs 1.5 lakh fine on him for kidnapping children and forcing them to beg in Ayodhya town. The case came to light when people saw Jitendra Mishra, the owner of a shop selling religious items in the Gola Bazaar area under Ayodhya Kotwali police station, beating children and compelling them to beg. After locals lodged a complaint with the police, an investigation revealed that he had kidnapped the children who later testified in court after they were rescued. Ankur Pandey, a resident of Hazara temple in Golbazar area of Ayodhya, filed a complaint at the Ayodhya police station stating that he saw Mishra making three children beg on the roadside when he arrived in front of a temple with two other residents on August 26, 2023, according to the police. Station house officer, Ayodhya Kotwali police station, Manoj Sharma said when police reached the place after the complaint was lodged, the children's condition was found to be miserable, and he (the shop owner) was beating them mercilessly. The children were taken to the government hospital where they received treatment, he said. Three children, aged one-and-a-half, two and five years respectively were rescued from the clutches of the accused. Ankur Pandey's complaint led to the registration of an FIR on August 27, 2023.
