Avoiding canned food, 30 mins workout reduce cancer risk: KGMU V-C
Lucknow, Dec. 18 -- Adopting a healthy lifestyle is essential in the fight against cancer, said King George's Medical University (KGMU) vice chancellor Prof Sonia Nityanand at the 39th Foundation Day celebration of the institute's radiotherapy department on Wednesday.
Emphasising preventive measures, Prof Nityanand advised people to consume seasonal fruits and green vegetables while avoiding bakery and canned food.
She also stressed the importance of exercising for at least 30 minutes daily to reduce the risk of cancer.
Experts at the event discussed various treatment options and said that patients who complete treatment as advised by doctors can lead a longer and better quality of life.
They noted that while immunotherapy has made cancer treatment easier, it must be used alongside other established methods such as chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy.
Highlighting recent advances, Dr Sudhir Singh said that even low doses of immunotherapy have proven effective in treating head and neck cancer, allowing patients to receive treatment at a relatively lower cost. He added that in most cases, immunotherapy is administered once every 21 days.
Dr M.L.B. Bhatt, the director of the Kalyan Singh Cancer Institute, said that around 1.5 million new cancer cases are diagnosed in India every year, affecting people across all age groups.
He expressed concern that nearly 70 to 80 per cent of patients are diagnosed at advanced stages-stage three or four-making treatment more challenging....
