PRAYAGRAJ, May 3 -- Allahabad University (AU) has decided to pause the Combined Research Entrance Test (CRET) for the time being and will instead consider UGC-NET scores for admission to its PhD courses. This move follows the University Grants Commission (UGC) notification dated March 27, 2024, outlining the Standards and Procedure for the Award of PhD. The university has clarified that in departments where PhD seats remain vacant due to an insufficient number of NET-qualified candidates, CRET will still be conducted to fill the remaining seats. This decision was taken during the 88th meeting of the university's Executive Council (EC)-the apex decision-making body-chaired by vice chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava in the North Hall of the Senate House Complex on Wednesday, informed AU PRO Prof Jaya Kapoor.
