LUCKNOW, Nov. 7 -- Following the demolition of the shelter home at King George's Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre over two weeks ago, several attendants are forced to spend nights in the open amid dipping temperature in the absence of any alternative arrangement. The 400-bed trauma centre receives more than 300 emergency patients daily from across the state, according to a KGMU official. Leela Devi, 42, from Barabanki, said her brother is undergoing treatment at the trauma centre and she has been struggling with two other family members. "We try to sleep on the ramp inside the trauma centre, but the security personnel ask us to leave," she said. KGMU spokesperson prof KK Singh said a six-storey patient accommodation centre has already been built beside the Shatabdi building. "After its completion, the demolition of the old shelter home in front of the trauma centre was initiated. A patient utility and diagnostic centre will be constructed at the site," he said. However, Ramanand, 48, from Rae Bareli, said there aren't enough beds for attendants, and those at the Shatabdi shelter home -- which is away from the trauma centre -- are always occupied. "The administration should have made alternative arrangements here before demolishing shelter," he said. htc...
