Varanasi, Sept. 15 -- In a dramatic turn of events during an anti-illegal mining drive, three high-speed vehicles allegedly attempted to run over mining surveyor Yogesh Shukla near the Lodhi Mining barrier under Robertsganj Kotwali police station area in Sonbhadra district on Saturday evening, police said. According to circle officer Robertsganj Randhir Mishra, Shukla was conducting a check on vehicles suspected of operating without valid mining permits, accompanied by a police team. When Shukla tried to stop the vehicles, the drivers allegedly accelerated and attempted to run him over with the intention of harming him. Instead of stopping, the drivers tried to mow him down. The police team attempted to stop the vehicles, but the method they used was inappropriate. Hence, departmental action has been initiated, Mishra said. Following a complaint filed by Shukla, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Robertsganj police station. An investigation is underway. The police team allegedly tried to stop the fleeing trucks by pelting stones at them. Taking serious note of this, superintendent of police Ashok Kumar Meena ordered an inquiry and took immediate action. Head constable Akhilesh Yadav, constable Amarendra Kumar, and Constable Anurag Tiwari were found involved in pelting stones at the trucks and have been suspended with immediate effect. Robertsganj police station in-charge Inspector Gopal Gupta has also been suspended for negligence. Crime inspector Madhav Singh, already posted at the Robertsganj police station, has been appointed as the new in-charge inspector. SP Meena stated that the way the police team attempted to stop the trucks was not in accordance with protocol. Action has been taken against those responsible. A speeding car hit seven people near Sarangapur Market in the trans-Yamuna area of Prayagraj on Sunday evening, resulting in the death of a teenager and injuries to six others, including two children and a woman. The incident occurred around 4 pm on the Prayagraj-Rewa highway. According to reports, the car first struck a motorcycle carrying five people and then hit two cyclists. The car, which did not stop after the accident, later collided with a truck parked near Iradatganj intersection, about two kilometers from the initial crash site. The driver has been taken into custody. The deceased was identified as Nikhil, a 16-year-old-boy. Jewellery worth several lakhs and Rs.3 lakh in cash were stolen from a passenger aboard the Gorakhpur-Ahmedabad Express, officials said. The victim, Parmanand Bharwani, a resident of Ahmedabad, lodged a theft complaint at the Prayagraj Government Railway Police (GRP) station. He was traveling from Varanasi to Ujjain with his family in Coach M/1 of train number 19490. During the journey, a trolley bag kept under the seat was stolen. The bag contained Rs.3 lakh in cash, jewellery including a mangalsutra, the passport of Bharwani's wife, and valuable clothing. The theft came to light when the train reached Satna.
