Atiq gang members among 127 moved from Naini Central Jail
PRAYAGRAJ, June 26 -- A total of 127 undertrial inmates have been moved from Naini central jail to the district jail over the past two days, officials said.
Among those transferred are several known associates of the Atiq gang. The transfer follows the recent recovery of cash from Ali Ahmad, son of the slain gangster Atiq Ahmad, who is currently lodged in the high-security barrack of Naini Central Jail.
On June 17, jail officials carried out a surprise inspection of Ali's barrack. During the check, Rs 1,100 in cash and some banned items were found. This led to the suspension of the deputy jailor and the head warder. A three-member inquiry team, led by DIG (Prisons) Rajesh Srivastava, is now investigating the matter. The incident has raised serious concerns about security within the high-security prison.
Senior jail superintendent Rangbahadur Patel confirmed that 61 inmates were shifted on Tuesday, while 66 were moved earlier on Sunday. District jail superintendent Amita Dubey stated that all 127 inmates will be kept in quarantine for 10 days as a safety measure before being sent to their designated barracks....
