Astronomical observatory, mini stadium: LDA green lights Rs 20-crore projects for JMP
LUCKNOW, May 18 -- Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has approved the construction of an astronomical observatory pavilion at Janeshwar Mishra Park, which is set for a major revamp, according to officials.
They said multiple development projects worth Rs 20 crore for the park had got the authority's green light after a recent board meeting that was chaired by housing and urban planning principal secretary P. Guruprasad. Officials said the design and concept for the pavilion were being developed in collaboration with scientists from the Council of Science and Technology. "The observatory will include advanced telescopes. A mini museum will also be built to display old instruments and astronomy-related exhibits," said LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar. The project would cost Rs 2 crore, and a request for proposal for it was currently being prepared, he added. The mini stadium has been proposed to come up on 20 acres of park land at Rs 10 crore. The facility will include a mini cricket stadium, badminton and tennis courts, volleyball and football grounds, and a skating rink. "We are developing it under the Public-Private Partnership model. It is expected to generate at least Rs 35 lakh annually for the park," Kumar added.
Also, LDA has proposed further development of the country's "largest" rose garden in the park. The garden would feature 2,369 varieties of roses. The garden would be expanded and modernised at a cost of Rs 5 crore, he added....
