Asst teacher recruitment: 12.36 lakh candidates for 7,385 posts
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 2 -- The competition for assistant teacher (LT grade) posts in Uttar Pradesh government secondary schools is set to be intense, particularly in biology and agriculture subjects. After a gap of seven years, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has announced recruitment for 7,385 LT grade vacancies, drawing 12,36,238 applications across various subjects, said UPPSC officials.
Online application process officially began on July 28 and the deadline for submitting them was August 28. In 2018, the last recruitment of assistant teacher (LT grade), 7,63,317 candidates had applied for 10,768 posts, the officials added.
Among all subjects, agriculture has emerged as the most competitive this time, with 11,753 candidates vying for just 14 posts on offer-an average of 840 applicants per seat. It is followed by biology, which has drawn 1,51,366 applicants for 214 posts (about 707 candidates per seat).
Social science stands third with 2,09,575 applicants for 701 vacancies (roughly 299 per post). In mathematics, 1,86,993 candidates are competing for 1,093 posts (around 171 per post), while Hindi has 1,29,514 applicants for 687 vacancies (about 189 per post).
UPPSC has announced examination dates for 14 out of 15 subjects, scheduled between December and January. The date for the computer subject exam-where 70,496 candidates are contesting for 1,056 posts (about 67 per seat)-is yet to be declared.
According to the subject-wise data of vacant posts and applications received for other subjects includes science with 1,337 posts and 102,953 applications (77 candidates per post), followed by English with 653 posts and 1,11,266 applications (170 candidates per post).
In home science, 369 posts have attracted 89,223 applications (242 candidates per post), while Sanskrit has 182 posts and 40,403 applications (222 candidates per post), according to officials. Likewise the field of physical education has 258 vacancies with 34,290 applicants (133 candidates per post), and Arts has 578 posts with 19,748 applications (34 candidates per post).
Similarly, commerce, despite having only 58 posts, received as many as 66,165 applications (1,141 candidates per post) even as Urdu has 120 posts on offer and 8,765 applications (73 candidates per post) and music has 65 posts with 3,729 applicants (57 candidates per post).
This LT grade recruitment has now set the record for the highest number of applications ever received for a single recruitment drive conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). The previous record was held by the Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) Recruitment 2023, which saw 10,76,004 applicants. Even UPPSC's most prestigious exam, the PCS-2025, had received only 6,26,387 applications, significantly fewer than the current LT grade recruitment....
