LUCKNOW, Nov. 4 -- Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers staged protests at various government health facilities as they struck work on Monday. Over 1.5 lakh ASHA workers are on a strike, said Seema Singh, state president of the ASHA Bahu Kalyan Samiti, Uttar Pradesh. "We are not being paid for various works while the monthly honorarium too is pending for the last two months," said Singh. Indu Bala, president of the Lucknow chapter said, "We have given a memorandum to all concerned officials, including the head of community health centres that none of the ASHA will work from November 1, owing to pending demands." Day-long protests were staged at CHC Khiron in Rae Bareli, PHC Mungrabadshahpur in Jaunpur, Malihabad in Lucknow, Khajni in Gorakhpur, Hilauli in Unnao. "The total payment for an ASHA worker is not enough to run a family. The government needs to think about increasing our earnings," said Indu Bala....
