Around 100 cheated using fake Trump app
Bengaluru, May 28 -- At least 100 people in Karnataka were duped by cybercriminals after they invested in a fake digital investment scheme, which was promoted using artificial intelligence-generated visuals of US President Donald Trump, police said on Tuesday.
Police said that the fraud was orchestrated through the mobile application "Trump App", which was advertised on social media platforms. Users were asked to register on the app with a Rs.1,500 fee.
Upon signing up, they received payouts of Rs.500 and daily credits ofRs.30.
"In the beginning, they return some amount to build trust. Then they raise the stakes, promise higher returns, and vanish with the money," Haveri superintendent of police Anshukumar said.
Police said that more than 100 people have been affected by the scam, losing crores. So far, 15 people have reported the matter.
The Cybercrime, Economic Offences and Narcotics (CEN) police in Haveri registered a case and launched an investigation. "People should stay away from such fraudulent apps, including fake loan and money-doubling apps; all of these are scams. The Trump App has now been shut down," Anshukumar said. htc...
