Army officials meet Capt Manoj Pandey's family, pay tribute
LUCKNOW, July 21 -- In the run-up to the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army has launched a nationwide campaign to honour soldiers who died in the 1999 Kargil War. As part of the initiative, Army personnel on Friday visited the Lucknow residence of Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Param Vir Chakra (Posthumous), met his family, and paid tribute to his sacrifice.
Capt Pandey was 24 when he led an assault on Khalubar Top in the Batalik sector. Despite being grievously injured, he reportedly continued to lead his men and played a key role in securing the area before succumbing to his injuries.
"His memory lives with us every day. But the Army's visit makes us feel the nation stands with us and has not forgotten the sacrifice made by him," his family said.htc...
