Jammu, May 23 -- An army jawan was killed and two others were injured in an encounter with terrorists in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said, adding that the operation was ongoing. Officials said that security forces received intel from local police about the presence of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists at Shingpora in Chhatru, Kishtwar. Around 6am, a joint search operation was launched by para commandos of the elite special forces, army's counter insurgency wings -- 7 Assam Rifles and 11 Rashtriya Rifles -- and special operations group of Jammu and Kashmir Police. "Contact has been established with #terrorists during a joint #operation with @JmuKmrPolice at #Chhatru, #Kishtwar today morning," Indian Army's White Knight Corps said in a post on X. "Additional troops have been inducted, and operations are ongoing to neutralize the terrorists." During the encounter between security forces and terrorists, three soldiers were hurt. "A fierce gun fight erupted this morning between the terrorists and security forces in which three soldiers were injured, one of them critically," a defence official said on condition of anonymity.
