LUCKNOW, Sept. 11 -- The 60th Balidan Diwas of Param Vir Chakra awardee Shaheed Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid was observed here at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on Wednesday. Organised by The Legend Veer Abdul Hamid Trust, the event drew senior Army officers, war veterans, Veer Naris, civil dignitaries and citizens to pay homage to Abdul Hamid's service.Shaheed Abdul Hamid was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest wartime gallantry award, for his actions in the 1965 Indo-Pak War.Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command, was the chief guest. Paying tribute, he said, "Shaheed Abdul Hamid is an eternal inspiration for the armed forces and the nation." Ceremonial proceedings included a Guard of Honour by the Indian Army, a patriotic cultural performance and a military band. A documentary on Abdul Hamid's actions at Asal Uttar (meaning 'real reply'), where he destroyed multiple enemy tanks before being killed in action in 1965, was screened.Family members and other contributors received Abdul Hamid Memorial Mementoes in recognition of their role in preserving his legacy.
