Anyone can say anything, says Naravane on Rahul's claims
New Delhi, Feb. 20 -- Amid a raging controversy over his unpublished memoir, former Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane (retd) on Thursday questioned the practice of quoting unnamed sources in news stories.
"We cannot take cognisance of articles publishing unnamed sources," he said, while speaking to Republic TV on the sidelines of a literature festival in Dibrugarh. He was responding to a question on the recently published article citing his unpublished book in The Caravan magazine.
When asked to comment on Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi quoting his unpublished memoir, Four Stars of Destiny, to suggest the government had left Naravane in the lurch, without giving him specific directions to deal with the advancing Chinese army in 2020, he said: "Anybody can say anything. I am not obliged to comment on it."
He added that doubts over territorial loss should instead be addressed to Beijing. "I think you should ask the reverse question to the Chinese - have they occupied any Indian land? The answer to that question will satisfy all those who have any doubt on this matter," he said, on being asked if India had lost territory to China.
