LUCKNOW, Dec. 17 -- The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Uttar Pradesh seized narcotics worth approximately Rs.3.4 crore in three separate operations conducted across the state over the last two days, confirmed senior police officials while sharing press notes on Tuesday. A total of four accused, including inter-state traffickers, have been arrested in connection with the cases. In the biggest operation, ANTF police station, Meerut, along with the Operational Unit Prayagraj arrested an inter-state ganja trafficker from Odisha. The accused, Sonupal, a resident of Etah district, was apprehended near Pandey Ji Dhaba on the Prayagraj-Varanasi highway under the Gopiganj police station limits in Bhadohi district on Tuesday. Police recovered 3.80 quintals of illegal ganja valued at around Rs.2 crore, along with a Canter vehicle, a mobile phone and cash. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. During interrogation, the accused revealed his links with a drug network he came in contact with while lodged in jail in 2023. In another operation, ANTF Operational Unit, Lucknow, arrested Aniket Maurya of Rae Bareli district from Nigohan area under Lucknow South Commissionerate on Monday night. The team seized 49.05 kg of ganja worth nearly Rs.25 lakh, a four-wheeler, two mobile phones and cash. The accused admitted that he had been involved in ganja trafficking for a long time to earn quick money. Meanwhile, ANTF Gorakhpur unit arrested two active heroin traffickers near Ekla Mandir on Gorakhpur-Varanasi Road under the GIDA police station limits on Monday. The accused, identified as Chhedi Yadav and Arun Singh, were found in possession of 530 grams of heroin valued at about Rs.1.10 crore, a scooter, two mobile phones and cash.
