Prayagraj, June 11 -- The Prayagraj unit of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a drug smuggler late on Monday night and recovered 700 grams of smack, valued at approximately Rs 1.40 crore on the international market.According to officials, the arrested individual has been identified as 31-year-old Syyed Mohd Siraj Rabbani, a resident of Barabanki. He was taken into custody near the Bhagwatpur Hospital area under the jurisdiction of the Prayagraj Airport Police Station at around 10:40 pm on Monday. The arrest was carried out by a team of the ANTF led by sub-inspector Satyendra Pradhan, with assistance from local airport police personnel. During preliminary interrogation, Rabbani confessed to sourcing the contraband from contacts in the North-Eastern state of Manipur and distributing it across various districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh based on demand, in pursuit of profit. He further revealed that he had travelled to Prayagraj to deliver a consignment of the narcotic when he was apprehended. A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Prayagraj Airport Police Station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
