Anshul stars in HT's big win over DJ in SBI Cup LMPL
LUCKNOW, Dec. 16 -- A fine all-round performance by Anshul Kumar helped former champions Hindustan Times keep their hopes alive for a semi-final berth in the SBI Cup Lucknow Media Premier League, defeating former champions Dainik Jagran by 37 runs in a league match, at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium here on Monday.
Anshul first struck an unbeaten 55 in 52 balls with the help of eight boundaries to guide HT post 3/160 in stipulated 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss, and then took four wickets to demolish DJ for 123 runs in 19.5 overs.
Anshul along with fellow opener Deepak Gupta added 31 runs for the first wicket before Gupta was caught by Vimlesh Kumar off Ramesh Jha after scoring 15-ball 23 with the help of four hits to the fence. He then added 73 runs along with Zuhaib, who scored 31-ball 37 with the hello of five hits to the fence.
Another unbeaten 41-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Anshul and Veer Singh (27*, 14b, 2x4, 1x6) helped HT cross the 150-run mark. Vimlesh, Ramesh Jha and Vinesh shared three wickets between them for DJ.
Though DJ were off to a flying start with openers Shamyu and Ankur Dixit stitching together 48 runs in just 5.1 overs for the first wicket. But once Dixit departed after being caught by keeper sharad deep off Rohit Singh, things started changing dramatically as DJ kept losing wickets then on regular intervals.
Opener Shamy struck the highest 69 in 51 balls with the help of nine boundaries and a six. For HT, Player of the Match Anshul finished with 4/12, whereas Javed Mustafa took 3/14. Now, HT take on DD-AIR in a virtual quarterfinal match on Tuesday at 9.30 a.m.
Earlier, DD-AIR defeated defending champions Electronic Media by 40 runs in another Group A league match. DD-AIR scored 7/145. Sudhir Awasthi scored the highest 40 runs, while CS Azad contributed 28 runs. For Electronic Media, Tarun Singh took 3 wickets and Mayur Shukla took two wickets.
In reply, the Electronic Media XI faltered early on and could only manage 105 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Anil Yadav of the DD-AIR XI, who was later declared Player of the Match took 3 wickets.
At the Chowk Stadium, last year's runners-up, Times of India, defeated the LSJA XI by three wickets, thanks to the all-round performance of Players of the Match Rishi Singh Sengar (4 wickets, 23 runs).
Ayodhya's shooter Anshika won laurels for her district and state with her remarkable achievement at the national level. At the 68th National Shooting Championship held at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi, Anshika qualified for the 10-meter air pistol Indian team selection trials. With this success, she is now just a few steps away from sporting the Indian shooting team jersey.
At the age of 13, Anshika achieved this milestone and has also been an ISSF shooter for the past two years. Currently, she is a Class 7 student at Seth MR Jaipuria School in Lucknow. Her success is largely due to her hard work and disciplined routine.
Anshika trains under Surjan Singh, a former Indian Navy officer, at the Shri Ram Shooting Range in Gomti Nagar. The guidance of her coach, the support of her family, and Anshika's tireless efforts are giving her a new identity at the national level and raising strong hopes for future success on the international stage....
