Another accused arrested after police encounter in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 1 -- Police arrested an absconding accused in the murder of roadways bus driver Ravindra Kumar following an early-morning encounter on Friday.
The accused, identified as Faisal alias Kale Mariyadih, one of the seven named and four unidentified persons in the FIR, sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during an exchange of fire near the Khaderi river bridge and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment, officials said.
According to DCP (City) Manish Kumar Shandilya, police received a tip-off that Faisal, who was wanted in the case, was hiding near the road connecting Katuhula Gauspur and Ganja village, close to the Khaderi river bridge. When a police team reached the spot, Faisal allegedly opened fire at them. In retaliatory firing, he was injured and subsequently arrested.
Police recovered one country-made pistol, four live cartridges and two used cartridges from his possession.
CCTV footage had earlier shown Faisal accompanying the main accused, Ali, who attacked Ravindra Kumar with a brick following a dispute at a petrol pump in Mundera Chungi on October 21, leading to the driver's death.
Based on a complaint filed by the deceased's brother, Rajan Pasi, an FIR was registered against seven named and four unidentified persons. Faisal's name surfaced during the ongoing investigation, in addition to the seven already named in the case, officials said.
A reward of Rs.25,000 each had initially been announced for the absconding accused.
On October 27, police arrested two of them, Ali and Kamran, in separate encounters, after which the reward for the remaining wanted accused was increased to Rs.50,000 each.
So far, four accused including Ali, Kamran, Irfan Ahmad and Mohammad Hussain have been arrested in connection with the murder. Irfan Ahmad and Mohammad Hussain were arrested by STF near Manikpur Railway Station in Chitrakoot on October 30. Police are continuing efforts to trace the remaining accused Nurain, Hasnain and Kaif, who are still at large....
