Anomalies in parking mgmt: Mayor orders action
LUCKNOW, March 29 -- After illegal operations, unhygienic conditions and alleged manipulation in tender allocations in Lucknow's parking management were detected, mayor Sushma Kharkwal ordered immediate corrective action and warned officials of strict accountability.
Acting on irregularities flagged during a surprise inspection, the mayor on Saturday pulled up officials during a review meeting held at the Smart City office. Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar and senior officers of the parking department attended the meeting.
The mayor said inspections at multi-level parking sites in Hazratganj and near KD Singh Babu Stadium uncovered serious violations. Authorities found garbage piled up inside parking premises.
Officials also detected illegal use of parking spaces, where operators had allegedly set up car markets and garages.
Kharkwal said mismanagement in prime locations like Hazratganj undermines the city's image, as these areas attract visitors from across the country. She directed officials to ensure strict cleanliness standards and restore order at parking sites. The mayor objected to the practice of subletting parking contracts, calling it a direct violation of tender rules. She instructed officials to immediately stop such arrangements and initiate action against those involved.
Kharkwal said complaints suggest that certain officials manipulated the tender process to allot multiple parking contracts to the same individual. She termed the practice unacceptable and warned that violations would invite strict action.
The mayor directed officials to submit a compliance report and fix responsibility for lapses....
