AMU seminar marks World Heritage Day
Agra, April 19 -- The department of museology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), observed World Heritage Day 2026 by organising a national seminar highlighting the importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage.
Dr Smitha S Kumar, superintendent, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Agra Circle, delivered the keynote address at the event organised on the occasion of World Heritage Day on Saturday.
She focused on the management of World Heritage Sites with special reference to the Taj Mahal.
She discussed conservation practices, site management planning and preparedness for heritage protection.
Prof Nafees Ahmad Khan, dean, faculty of life sciences, attended as guest of honour and underscored the significance of research and outreach initiatives in promoting heritage awareness.
Earlier, welcoming the participants, prof Abduraheem K, chairperson and organising secretary, emphasised the role of heritage in social development and ongoing research efforts in conservation.
As part of the programme, an outreach activity was organised in collaboration with the Museum Club, where schoolchildren were taken on a guided tour of the Musa Dakri Museum to foster awareness about heritage conservation.
