AMU celebrates 150th anniv of 'Vande Mataram'
Agra, Nov. 8 -- Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and its maintained institutions, including departments, centres, schools, and halls of residence, enthusiastically participated in the nationwide celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the national song, "Vande Mataram".
Composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1882 and immortalised in his novel Anandamath, "Vande Mataram" continues to inspire generations as a symbol of India's freedom struggle and national unity, stated the press note released by the public relations office of Aligarh Muslim University on Friday.
The commemoration aimed to pay tribute to Chatterjee's enduring legacy while fostering a sense of patriotism and cultural pride among the younger generation.
The university community observed the event in accordance with the Education Ministry's schedule, which included the mass singing of "Vande Mataram" at 9.50am, followed by the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address at 10.25am. The live stream was accessed through official channels of DD News, the Ministry of Culture, and the Prime Minister's YouTube channel.
Among the schools, AMU Girls' School celebrated the 150th anniversary of "Vande Mataram" with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. Principal Amna Malik addressed the gathering, tracing the song's historical background and its role in shaping India's freedom movement..
At Abdullah School, a special assembly featured speeches on the significance of "VandeMataram" and its enduring message of unity.
Superintendent Umra Zaheer addressed the gathering and commended the collective participation of students and staff in the mass singing and live screening of the Prime Minister's address.
Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged held a moving rendition of "Vande Mataram," with active participation from students, teachers, and staff....
