Amid growing traffic woes, 19 new parking sites to come up in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 10 -- In a major step towards addressing Sangam city's growing traffic and parking woes, the civic authorities here have initiated preparations to develop 19 new designated parking sites across Prayagraj.
A dedicated committee formed to identify potential sites has already conducted on-ground inspections of the proposed locations, confirmed the officials concerned.
Confirming the plan, additional municipal commissioner Deependra Yadav said while all 19 locations have been identified, their details will be made public only after formal approvals are secured.
"In the first phase, nine sites will be developed. The committee is currently drafting bylaws, including parking regulations and fee structures, before operations begin," he added.
These include Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Drummond Road, Sardar Patel Marg, PD Tandon Marg (in front of Boys' High School), Thornhill Road, Swaroop Rani Marg and areas near St Joseph's College.
The initiative comes amid growing public concern over unregulated roadside parking and worsening traffic congestion.
The planned parking sites aim to streamline vehicular movement and create a more organised urban mobility framework.
A meeting of the municipal parking committee was held on August 27 to finalise these initial sites. Although Nawab Yusuf Road was discussed as a potential location, the decision on its inclusion has been deferred, said a senior civic official familiar with the development.
Several of the proposed sites are areas where the municipal corporation had previously operated parking services-suggesting a possible revival or restructuring of older facilities....
