Amid bird flu scare, blue bull calf dies at Knp zoo
Kanpur, May 24 -- A blue bull (nilgai) calf died at the Kanpur Zoological Park on Friday, raising further concerns in the wake of recent animal fatalities at the facility.
According to zoo authorities, the young nilgai had sustained injuries during a scuffle with other calves a few days ago. Zoo director Shraddha Yadav claimed injuries appeared to be the cause of death, though she maintained that the matter remains under investigation.
"As a precaution, samples from the carcass have been sent to the laboratory in Bhopal for further examination," she said.
Over the past 10 days, an Asiatic lion and a peacock succumbed to avian influenza at the zoo. The recent unexplained death of another bird has only heightened concerns among officials and wildlife experts alike.
Despite these incidents, zoo authorities have yet to receive any conclusive laboratory reports from the Bareilly or Bhopal veterinary institutes regarding nearly 400 animal samples collected for testing. htc...
