Alleging temple land grab, Sitapur priest climbs water tank
LUCKNOW, June 25 -- Alleging illegal sale of a temple's land, a priest from Sitapur climbed the water tank at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital here on Monday and threatened to end his life, police said.
According to Hazratganj police, Ramashankar Tiwari, who serves at the ancient Panchmukhi Bada Shivala Temple in Behti of Sitapur, has alleged that one Vishal Kapoor sold the temple's land by forging documents. Despite submitting multiple complaints, Tiwari said no action had been taken by the Sitapur administration.
"Tiwari arrived in Lucknow with his sister, Ragini Pandey, on Monday to seek justice at the Chief Minister's Janata Darbar. However, after allegedly failing to get entry, the 50-year-old priest climbed the hospital's water tank around 6:30 pm," said SHO Vikram Singh.
After over 30 minutes of persuasion, police convinced him to climb down. Sub-inspector Deepansh Yadav later escorted both Tiwari and his sister back to the Janata Darbar to present their case.
The SHO confirmed that the complaint has been forwarded to the Sitapur district officials for further investigation into the matter.
