Alld high court to hear fresh PIL today against merger of schools
LUCKNOW, July 10 -- A fresh Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court questioning the state government's decision to merge primary schools and demanding a policy to ensure transportation for children from poor families under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The PIL, filed by advocate Jyoti Rajput, has been listed for hearing on Thursday before a division bench comprising Justice A R Masoodi and Justice Shree Prakash Singh.
The petitioner has contested the state government's order dated June 16, which provides for the merging or clubbing of primary schools. The plea argues that this step may adversely affect children from poor families living in remote villages from attending school.
The PIL also seeks court directions to frame specific guidelines ensuring the provision of transport for such children, as mandated by the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
A similar plea by 51 children from Sitapur was earlier dismissed by a single bench on July 7. State government's Chief Standing Counsel Shailendra Kumar Singh confirmed the development....
