VARANASI, Dec. 13 -- Keeping in view the religious and cultural dignity of Kashi and public interest, Varanasi mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari has directed that all public places of worship, charitable trusts, and schools in the city area be exempted from general tax (house tax). Municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal clarified that the exemption is being granted in accordance with the provisions of Section 177 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1959. Nagpal also said this process has been in operation by the municipal corporation for a long time and is now being specifically informed to the public to make it more transparent and accessible. He requested all building owners in the city area to submit complete details and records of their buildings to zonal office so that they can be provided tax exemption....
